Basic Manuscript Format
BASIC MANUSCRIPT FORMAT Itâs been some time since Iâve up to date my own commonplace manuscript file, so I took some time this morning to do that. Most of this weekâs publish, then, shall be discovered as downloads from Athans & Associates Creative Consulting. But first, hereâs a helpful information for some basic formatting stuff: Always solely ever use 12-level Times New Roman. Formatting, in Word, is actually pretty easy. If youâre using a PC (Iâm a Mac man) the interface might be somewhat totally different, but the primary settings are beneath: Format Paragraph Set General: Alignment: Left Set Indentation: Left: 0â Right: zeroâ Special: First line by: zero.5â Set Spacing: Before: 0â After: 0â Line Spacing: Double Then click on: Donât add space between paragraphs of the same fashion â¦and youâre ninety% of the way in which there. Then, underneath Preferences⦠Choose:AutoCorrect click on on: Automatically appropriate spelling and formatting while you kind. But⦠Under AutoCor rect, Math AutoCorrect, and AutoText, uncheck allother boxes. Under AutoFormat As You Type, verify solely: âstraight quotesâ with âgood quotesâ andHyphens (â") with em dash (â"). Then set your headers: First, underFormat/Document Go to:Layout Click onDifferent first web page The default margins must be zero.5ââ"go away those as is. There ought to be no header on the primary web page and no footer on any pages. For page 2 and past, set the headerflush rightto seem like this: Your Name/âTitle of Storyâ/web page quantity OR Your Name/Title of Novel/page number The header could be in 11-point Times New Roman. But thereâs more, which Iâve introduced in three handy formats. Click right here for .docx Click right here for .doc Click here for .pdf Of course, write in any format or lack thereof that pleases you, but if youâre able to get this able to send to an editor, agent, or any other reader, make these easy but essential formatting adjustments! â"Philip Athans About Philip Athans For those of us who use Scrivener or some other writing software, itâs in all probability a good suggestion to check to make sure it's exported with the right formatting. I assume I assumed it had exported it accurately, however there were some margin and indentation errors.
